Part-time English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher

Community Literacy Centers (CLC) is seeking qualified teachers for an adult English as a Second Language (ESL) class! Instructors will work with students to improve their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Teachers will be provided with a curriculum and sample lesson plans.

Our class times vary but are offered Monday-Thursday in the morning, afternoon, and evening across the Oklahoma City metro area. Classes meet twice weekly for 1.5-2 hours.

Classes begin in early September.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide instruction in reading strategies such as phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, and fluency
  • Be responsible for minimal paperwork and class preparation outside of class time,
  • Develop a lesson plan for adults based on their educational needs and goals,
  • Teach a multi-level class of adults,
  • Administer the CASAS standardized test

Qualifications and Skills

  • Innovative and reliable,
  • Able to interact with adult students and collaborate with other educators,
  • Have excellent English language skills and grammar knowledge,
  • Have dependable transportation,
  • A creative thinker that can think “outside the box” in order to obtain desired results and objectives,
  • Have strong leadership abilities; organized, self-directed with a comprehensive knowledge of educational principles,
  • Able to adapt instructional strategies and classroom management using a variety of delivery methods (whole group, small group, individual),
  • 1-2 years teaching experience,
  • Bachelors degree

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in a second language
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus!
  • Oklahoma teaching certificate
  • B.A Degree in Education or TESOL

Part-time adult basic education teacher

Community Literacy Centers is seeking qualified teachers for an adult Basic Literacy class. Instructors will work with students to improve their reading and writing skills.

Class times vary but are offered MondayThursday morning, afternoon, and evening throughout the Oklahoma City Metro area. Classes meet twice weekly for 1.5-2 hours.

Classes begin in early September.

Responsibilities and Duties

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide instruction in reading strategies such as phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension,
  • Be responsible for minimal paperwork and class preparation outside of class time,
  • Develop a lesson plan for adults based on their educational needs and goals,
  • Make learning student-centered and relevant to the individual student’s goals,
  • Teach a multi-level class of adults,
  • Administer and score CASAS standardized test.
